Scottish Climbing Archive

The Scottish Climbing Archive is an entirely free web-based resource. It is aimed at climbers and outdoor enthusiasts who either live in Scotland or are planning to visit us. We currently publish information on Rock & Ice Climbing, Mountaineering & Hillwalking in Scotland.

There are currently only two of us working on the archive in our spare time - if you'd like to get involved you can email us. Slowly but surely, we're getting all of our information into a database system which will make our website much easier to use. If you have something to contribute, please let us know and remember all feedback, positive or negative is always appreciated.

Site Update

The shops database is now in a useable state - we're still working on a final draft of the forms but you can both search for shops, Manufacturers and Online stores - and you can add shops to the database for any country.

The current focus of the database is obviously Scotland but feel free to enter shop info for France, USA etc!

I have added a live link to the Events page I am currently working on and data entry/simple searching is currently supported - I'll populate this with info as I receive it.

We are going to create a Travel Page or perhaps a database query if we gather enough information. You can help us be emailing us detailed descriptions of how to get to your favourite places for walking and climbing.

New Pages

Walking/Mountaineering?
I have added more added more meat to our hillwalking sections on the Isle of Skye (Cuillins) and Torridon.

Planning a trip somewhere?
Our first mini-guides are for Ben Nevis, Britain's highest mountain and Glencoe. Links to these pages will be from our Updated Hillwalking Page which is being updated/expanded regularly.

Sport Climbing & Bouldering
This is really taking off in Scotland with established venues at Dumbarton and Dunkeld - our detail of sport climbing in Scotland are sketchy at best. If you'd like to us to write about this let me know or alternatively just email me a couple of details about your favourite sport climbing/bouldering venue!

Routes Database
Our routes database structure is complete but I am still working on the PHP/Forms for this. Hopefully this will arrive somtime soon.

Crianlarich - Travel Page

Do you know how to get to Crianlarich? As the "Gateway to the Highlands" we want to create a page which details how to get to Crianlarich from loads of different places in Scotland. - Most useful would be two or three routes from Strathclyde, Inverness and the North West of Scotland... so, if you know how to get there, let us know. We are also gathering/publishing details of how to get to other popular places.

Help Wanted!

Has anyone ever been to Sutherland/Stac Polleidh? Want to tell the world about it?

We're always looking for people to contribute something to the archive - feedback, an article, pictures, information on shops or routes or even money...

See our policy page for our commitments!
